Firm Participates in “Red Nose Day” Fundraiser

On May 26th, members of the firm donned red noses to show their support for Red Nose Day.  Red Nose Day is affiliated with Comic Relief and is held annually to help support poverty-stricken children in the US and throughout the world. Funds raised through donations and sales of red noses go to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, and the United Way, among others, and are used to help provide meals, education, medical care and vaccines, and clean water.   In addition to donating to the cause, the firm also collected food items to donate to food pantries in the Capital Region and in Saugerties.

Maynard, O’Connor Welcomes New Firm Administrator Scott Adelmann

We are pleased to announce that Scott Adelmann has joined the firm as our firm administrator.  Scott previously worked at Thuillez, Ford, Gold, Butler & Monroe, LLP as their office manager.  He brings a wealth of law firm management experience based on his 15 years there as a paralegal and office manager.  Scott is currently serving as the president of the Albany Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators.  He also enjoys competing in triathlons and hiking.  He completed the Lake Placid Ironman in 2012 and is currently working towards becoming an Adirondack 46er.

Firm Participates in Workforce Challenge

On May 19th, several members of the firm participated in the Workforce TeamChallenge, an annual 3.5-mile race through downtown Albany.  This year, 10,000 runners and walkers participated in the race.  The event is organized by the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club, and funds raised by the race are used to support college scholarships, grants, running clinics, and the Just Run program that encourages grade school children to run for exercise and fun.

Maynard O’Connor Welcomes New Associate Kostas D. Leris

We are pleased to announce that Kostas D. Leris has joined the firm as an associate attorney. Kostas concentrates his practice in area of civil litigation, including personal injury, medical malpractice, civil rights defense, general litigation defense, real estate matters and trust and wills.

Kostas brings nearly three years of litigation experience. He started his legal career as an attorney with the law firm of Cook, Netter, Cloonan, Kurtz & Murphy in Kingston, New York.  Kostas received his undergraduate degree in Social Sciences from Boston College, and earned his law degree from Albany Law School.

Kostas’ addition expands the firm to a team of sixteen dedicated attorneys, engaged in a wide variety of legal fields.

Maynard Welcomes New Associate Attorney Sara A. Smaila

We are pleased to announce that Sara A. Smaila has joined the firm as an associate attorney. Sara concentrates her practice in medical malpractice defense, personal injury defense and insurance coverage disputes, general litigation defense, and trusts and wills.

Sara worked in the civil legal service department at the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo while at SUNY Buffalo Law School. She has worked with low-income victims of domestic violence helping them obtain orders of protection and other legal remedies available through the courts while working at Safe Horizon. Sara looks forward to applying her zeal for helping people to MOSC’s clients.  Sara graduated cum laude with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Law from Binghamton University, and earned her law degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Law.

Sara’s addition expands the firm to a team of fifteen dedicated attorneys.

This January, Becky Lemme of the Maynard, O’Connor team celebrated 20 years with the firm. Becky has been providing support for the firm since January of 1996.

Becky began her career here at Maynard, O’Connor, as a Bookkeeper in 1996; she then moved to the position of Staff Accountant in 2003 and is currently the Supervisor of the Accounting Department.

The firm would like to thank Becky for her support, dedication and loyalty to our clients and our members.

FIRM SUPPORTS 32ND ANNUAL “DANCING IN THE WOODS” BENEFIT

For twenty-five years, Maynard, O’Connor, Smith & Catalinotto, LLP has proudly served as one of the major sponsors of Dancing in the Woods, the annual black-tie gala to benefit the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer & Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. The “Melodies Center” is the Capital Region’s primary provider of care to infants and children with leukemia, lymphoma, and other life-threatening blood cancers.

Dancing in the Woods is one of the largest and most successful fundraising event in the Capital Region, raising over $7 million since its inception in 1983.  Rob Rausch once again served as co-chair of the event, and has been involved with its planning and organization for the past eighteen years.

This year, the event was held on Friday, December 4thth, at the Armory on the Sage College campus, with over 750 guests in attendance.  Thanks to generous sponsorship, the event successfully raised over $500,000 to support the Melodies Center.

Congratulations Attorney Michael Catalinotto Jr.

Congratulations Attorney Michael Catalinotto Jr. on a successful defense verdict in Ulster County! Attorney Catalinotto obtained an acquittal for NYS Corrections officer Michael Bukowski on an assault charge. The verdict was a result of Attorney Catalinotto’s diligent and thorough trial preparation and effective presentation at trial. Rob Rausch lectures at Continuing Legal Education programs

On November 6th, Rob Rausch lectured at Albany Law School, in conjunction with the school’s program to provide free Continuing Legal Education credit to recent graduates. Rob discussed procedures and recommendations for successfully handling personal injury litigation, and presented on two topics:  “Everything Pre-Suit: Considerations for Effectively Choosing, Preparing, and Commencing a Personal Injury Claim” and “Conducting an Effective Deposition in a Motor Vehicle Accident Claim: Guidelines and Recommendations.”

Rob is a 1994 graduate of Albany Law School, and is a past President of the National Alumni Association.

Receptionist Wins Second Annual Bake Off!

On October 26th, with Halloween right around the corner, the talented bakers at Maynard O’Connor participated in the firm’s second annual Bake-Off.    Some of the tasty goodies included apple roses, Jamaican banana bread, pumpkin cheesecake, quiche lorraine, kahlua pecan pie, and Nutella filled chocolate cupcakes with raspberry buttercream frosting.  After serious deliberation by our esteemed judges, our receptionist, Serena Sapienza’s Carmelita bars took first place.  Serena was awarded a firm apron for a job well done.  Congratulations Serena!
