Ed Tobin gives presentation to New York State Small Business Development Center

On September 18, 2012 Ed Tobin, a partner in the firm, gave a presentation to the New York State Small Business Development Center, attended by start-up businesses, addressing the typical legal issues and pitfalls encountered in getting underway in business. Ed has 24 years of business law and litigation experience and has put together a coursebook on Small Business Legal Fundamentals. “There are so many pitfalls that I see start-up businesses repeatedly encounter, pitfalls which can easily be avoided with some advance knowledge,” says Ed. In his presentation, Ed went over typical difficulties encountered with regard to independent contractors, insurance issues, problematic contract clauses, discrimination claims, non-compete agreements, and strategies to avoid litigation and governmental penalties. He also discussed common environmental hazards and remediation concerns and how to mitigate exposures in this arena as well.

Ed is a frequently invited lecturer on small business matters, requested by various incubator programs. He has volunteered 26 lectures to these programs since 2007.
